No, he's not joining because thousands of people would dunk on him, like if Sisyphus were a basketball hoop

Global pandemic starting and spreading? Active genocides? Active war zones? Famines?Nope! 2019-2020 Twitter was the "most miserable place on earth". It's like a Drama Queen and 1st World White Privilege somehow made a baby and didn't love it enough.

That's what this place feels like to me. I dig it; it makes me nostalgic for the days when you were more likely to have authentic conversations on social media than have to wade through piles of performative BS.

exactly-- less noise, clutter, BS and real connections. I'm newb (should have been an early adopter but was not really on social when all that went down), but glad to be here now :)) refreshing. Real conversations.

He is right about 2019-20 Twitter though. The site was already on a downward trajectory, it’s just Elon got in the cockpit, aimed the nose toward the ground and then kicked in the afterburners

they put in the newspaper that I think it’s 2012-2015 twitter vibes here bsky.app/profile/medp...

MedPage Today@medpagetoday.com

In the wake of the election, many are leaving #MedTwitter for #Bluesky. @kristinafiore.bsky.social spoke to @nickmark.bsky.social @nicksawyermd.com @kiswanson.bsky.social @mdaware.org @kidneyboy.bsky.social about the critical mass of docs engaging here: www.medpagetoday.com/special-repo... #MedSky

Also who are all these people saying that Bluesky is like 2019 twitter and saying that’s a good thing. I’m pretty sure nate’s basing that on exactly one (1) post from a poster he absolutely can’t be normal about

That’s how I feel as well. I also feel like the ethos and tools available reduce the kinds of behaviors (quote dunking for instance) that often really did make late stage, pre-Elon Twitter pretty miserable.

He's never had fun online. He's enjoyed being a popular wonk and being a data pervert. There is no joy in his work and now he can't even pretend he knows things.

I’m sure there were real substantive changes to the Twitter vibes during these two eras but I also think it’s very funny that Nate is mad about the Twitter vibes when people were mad at his model instead of the Twitter vibes when people were praising him as some kind of math Nostradamus

Like hey man maybe this particular shift is more personal than you realize, maybe social media was happier when people were happier with you instead of mad at you for “missing” a forecast

genuinely he would be totally fine if he came in and spent a day blocking everyone who followed him around to dunk on him he’d still end up with a huge audience and be able to post whatever in peace, it’s a skill issue

I mostly agree, but think a difference for him in specific is that he wants to be in with the 'cool' crowd and well, most of us are living in 2024 now. So its 2012 vibes with 2024 maturity. He's still stuck in 2015 maturity at best, so he's been left behind and is sad about that.

There is nothing stopping people from coming in and setting up their own communities (lib-grifters are doing it as we speak). Like you said it’s not that they can’t build an audience here. It’s that they hate the thought of their posts not being forced on people who don’t want to see them.

There is all that, but with no "left audience" he wouldn't be happy. We just don't give a rat's ass to his awful takes. He doesn't like speeches to his choir much; only when they dogpile. He has nothing to say to them.

His reference to a Web site as a.) a “place on Earth” and b.) the “most miserable” one in 2019* suggests he might not be the sharpest tool in the shed. 🤔 (*surely a surprise to more than a few Yemenis and Syrians)

I have many regrets but one of most infuriating his buying his yellow ass book so long ago--just to have some baby boomer who just heard about him praise his skinny ass after reading his newest book--because he brags about poker, which she *thinks* her little prince is good at too. F_ck!!

I'm sorry but not one single person anywhere, even still on Twitter thinks it was good in 2020. And most of the people here are explicitly nostalgic for 2014 Twitter. He's inventing a reality as an excuse.

These dudes are like - I wanna be free to be nasty to you, but you are not free to block me, because that takes my freedom away. Also, little does he know that the best Twitter was before 2007-2012 (and it's kinda what BSky feels like).

he's right that this place could use a bit more diversity in dominant topics of conversation aside from "left wing politics" and "pet pictures". Blocking the scum is a great feature but this place is getting pretty echo chamber-y
