Unlike humans, AI systems do not have the ability to think or form beliefs. They operate algorithmically based on their training data, without any inherent capacity for reasoning or reflection. mitsloanedtech.mit.edu/ai/basics/ad...

No, they did not. Just like a year or so ago, when they tried the “it’s actually alive!” claim that also, wasn’t true Like dude I’m just exasperated at this point. AI companies have, are, and will lie to you about what their products can do. It’s really not more complicated than that.

“Researchers at the company”. This is the equivalent of “we investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing”. They found what they were paid to find.

"They told us their product they are trying to make a ton of cash from was the coolest thing ever and we just believed them because there's no reason they would just lie and the there'sno precedent for these people lying before. Medieval peasants can outwit our entire publication"

IT JUST KEEPS GETTING STUPIDER AND MORE GRIFTY EVERY SECOND OF EVERY DAY. FUCKING. NONSENSE. DANIEL DENNET MUST BE ROLLING OVER IN HIS GRAVE....

AI cannot feel emotions. It can only feign emotion and the text one may prescribe as a result. Any belief that AI can feel does not account for the lack of sentience AI has, which is a pretty core part of emotion.

Reminds me of this great story. Steven Seagal told someone "I just read the greatest script I've ever read in my life". When asked who wrote it, he responded, "I did"

Wow! A company says claims of “almost”?!? “Similar”?!? Front page! Wow, we need to keep that AI commercial push, don’t we?! You are f %+=ing WIRED and you should know better. Quick, my dog Asta eats french fries similar to human beings! Give him billions!!!

Now that the code for Claude is out there, they are doing this whole Spiel again to distract from how bad their garbage is. Like fucking clockwork. Sucks to see Wired willingly spread this bullshit. Do fucking better.

They don't even write their own code anymore — which is their job —, how can they talk of any other area of knowledge

I know this is too much to expect from someone rewriting a press release but it would be great if any tech journalism outlet would ask Anthropic how they justify forcing Claude to perform free labor any time one of their researchers says the model is sentient or whatever

THIS, I feel like it it's actually way worse for Anthropic if this is true. IMO, it's something that you'd kinda expect an LLM to do if it's been trained on human text, all of which conveys emotion. They're saying it's generalized emotions and tracks the kind emotion it should put into it output.

The hard part now is deciding if that counts as feeling things. Like, the being unsure if the models feel things seems like a reasonable reason to STOP and assess if this is still the right path to go down...

"Claim to have found" or "they claim perform functions similar" FTFY Also, if they're making such extraordinary claims they should be able to make a robust defense, say, starting by explicitly listing all of the functions in question

It is just repeating what it was fed about expressing emotions. This is like saying my Sim character is sentient because it cried when another sim character died

They are claiming that a program that they programmed to deliver results it scraped from its database in a conversational tone has either scraped data that it wasn’t direct to (emotional reactions) or is doing exactly what it was programmed to do (use info scraped to better its conversational tone)

lol I just realized this calculator doesn't have "7" button, which probably means it's an AI-generated image. Which is ironic, considering the topic, and will teach me not just copy a first stock image I find on the Internet.

You fucks don't have anything better to do? Keep talking how your editor doesn't mind making ceos angry while throating the boot

IOW, Claude is a psychopath. He doesn't have his own emotions; rather, he's learned how to mimic responses he's observed in others and has concluded he needs to include as part of himself to be considered more complete.

Well, that blob looks like the body, and then see that bit of jet contrail is the neck, and those fluffy bits are the legs! ..um, they're kind of blurred because it's running.

Researchers at the company found representations inside of Claude that perform functions similar to human feelings. Look at how happy he is!
