it is CRUCIAL context that this is in a thread about TRANSGENDER PEOPLE, and how they are, in his estimation, "doing it wrong" it's not an abstract moderation discussion, it's actually about trans people, specifically!

i read years ago that Bluesky originally started up thru the LGBTQ community so they had a place to convo with each other. And that is why is actually such a nice, reasonable place to have convo and share posts in a nice way. Not an aggressive harsh foundation at all, like X has become.

I really appreciate that context because initially in light of just wanting people to be kind I thought this was great but you added much needed clarity and context. Thank you

do you happen to have a link to this thread? i assume some deletions have occurred

thank u for making it clear how hard bluesky staff works to make this a hostile place for transgender folks. I followed u @cyber professional after reading this, good post!

i think there is reasonable doubt and no one seems to have the actual context

dame@dame.is

> he started off his thread with what trans people are doing that justifies bans he's talking about some specific trans users that are violating TOS (this is a real thing!), he's not talking about trans people in general or as an entire group i don't see an issue with that

I've seen how policies around here play out in practice and how they operate by forcing filters like this on everyone when they used to talk about user choice. No thanks. Trust meter way into the negative.

Children’s book authors? I figured most of them had separate accounts for drawing more “experimental” stuff so they wouldn’t even consider taking such rights away. This may be something I’m kinda familiar with ;)

ideally we have network assessments at our back, understand both the mass voice, & what our network says. can see & find dissent. we have meta-moderation to understand & see the controversialness of those whose voices we are letting factor in to our personalized moderations. bsky.app/profile/jaun...

JauntyWunderKind@jauntywunderkind.bsky.social

everyone is immediately going to say, oh, doing anything is going to be a vector for abuse. how is that a problem when the data is public? our tools will have to adapt to that. we won't all agree on out moderation and we will need meta-moderation systems. same as it's always been.

i see so clearly why are are all so afraid of allow us to register comments on what we see & do, that we know how badly negative voices rule. but it's just going to be so different when these people are putting their name on all the moderations they do! evidence amounting!

there's no one number one score. but opening up media-forms in general, to make it possible to let all of us put some chits down on how we see things, how we see behavior: we haven't had that social review, signalling available. and i think in public it would help. a lot.

Everyone on this website is such a gleeful idiot that we'll all be social creditmaxxing, like, everyone's gonna cut a deal with their buddy to bully them senseless to become Toxic 9000

it’s like how any idiot with a domain can make an account like @jacksblog.biz, but all the people they’ve been trying to fellate are way too stupid to understand the concept, so instead the @jacksblogbiz.bsky.social account can get a checkmark instead

Because Aaron finds that the extremely useful and popular user-created lists and filters are insufficient to shut up Black, trans, and disabled people, and are instead being used to block bigots and Will Stancil en masse Just guessing

I know nobody cares about honesty on Bluesky, but it's deeply dishonest to make up evil thoughts and place them in someone else's head through mind-reading, and post that publicly. Even if you disclaim you're "just guessing". But people LOVE to lie to stoke crowd hatred against their enemies.

I think that's a third party account label enabled by the person viewing, which applies the label to any account created before a certain date. (I say "I think" because I'm sure he didn't program/make the labeler in question.)

I am one platform (this one) away from quitting social media and will, without hesitation if this were to ever become a thing. Fucking idiots need to watch Black Mirror as the cautionary series that it is...not a box of ideas for fascists.

I just want to train Jev on the kind of stuff I like and the kind of stuff that makes me unfollow, and put together a browser plugin that gives me a probability score, so if I follow this person for a banger post, I reduce the risk I'll have to unfollow them a week later for some ignorant bullshit.

This is sad. It's just another reason why Bluesky is fading. Any deviance is silenced. By deviance, I mean "interesting remarks" or "differing views" or a "fresh angle." It doesn't matter if platforms die or not, it's more that the damage to free speech was self-inflicted.

"Do your actual job and ban that Protocols of Zion reposting engagement farmer account, Aaron." -2137 social credit points removed from your account, now you cannot upload images.

This sounds like the Kill James Bond podcast where they claim with a wink to have an objective system to measure the quality of movies. They assign scores on a few metrics and total the numbers, and if you get distracted by the math you might not notice they're just subjectively assigning numbers.

Step 1 is to separate: - I wish ill upon (person) because I disagree with their life choices, even though those choices rarely affect others. - I wish ill upon (person/group) because they are dehumanizing people they had to seek out. If those are treated the same, the platform is partisan.

Or...and I know this is a wild thought...they could just let adults decide for themselves if something is toxic and block if they want. I dont know why theyre always trying to step in and obstruct people from making their own choices.

the wild part is that something like this could work but we all know he'd never implement anything that might risk affecting his darlings like one of the best ways to quickly check if someone is an arsehole is to skim their replies tab and see if you see a flood of "reply to a blocked post"

Got called a little bitch too many times. Got my feelings hurt. I need website to protect me and make it illegal for people to be mean to me

Are these the same people who are concerned about their tech toy (that they don’t realize is a social networking tool, which for which they do not actually want to be responsible, that they someday demand to be able to sell for billions) becoming an echo-chamber/silo?

Hate when I draft a whole thread and accidentally post when it’s almost edited so I have to rewrite the whole thing changing the wording dramatically in a way that might coincidentally fend off people who are dunking on the current thread that I definitely accidentally posted

It’s not about quality. It’s about control. The people cheering it on are the same ones who would scream “fascism” if this exact system appeared on any other site. They didn’t leave Twitter for freedom. They left so they could build a nicer, softer gulag with better aesthetics. Fuck off.

This is the same platform that spent years LARPing as the anti-Twitter refuge from “censorship” and “arbitrary moderation.” Now the Bluesky Elders are out here openly craving algorithmic loyalty scores so they can decide whose posts get to exist in public.

bluesky is so ass omg you niggas are about to do the same thing that twitter did but instead of nazis its aging gen x liberals that get the platform instead, and they're also gonna sniff their own farts about how much better bluesky is compared to twitter

itll be so cool when somebody makes a feed to exclusively show you posts from the lower classes on busky and then they get banned within the day for some shit like "incitement to harm"

Creepy as hell actually. There are useful tools they could add, but it needs to be "the accounts you follow tend to mute this account 30% of the time". I think giving people more options for blocks and mutes would help too.
